What a week!

Hello all!!
I am actually posting before it has been a week. Amazing huh?
This week was one full of phone calls!! I visited with both of my sisters Tuesday. My youngest sister is about to enter the Radiology department at Fort Hays State and has her interview this coming Friday. We visited about that and her anxiousness about where they will place her for her internship. My other sister is a 4th grade teacher in Dodge and I talked to her too. She is working on finishing up her Master's. She will graduate and walk in December. She is getting that degree is ESL (English as a Second Language).
We also recieved a phone call from Chris mom that her parents aren't doing well. She was out there for Christmas to help get some things settled. Grandma has been really sick this week and Grandpa can only do so much with him still being in physical therapy for his back.
And our other phone call of the week came Thursday morning about 11am, when we learned from my grandma that my cousin had her baby. He was almost 3 1/2 weeks overdue.
Mom and baby are doing well and we are glad for that. It is a first for the side of the family, so it has been really fun for me to see it from another perspective. I am the only one until now who had children in the family. So to experience a family birth and it not be me who is giving birth is really neat. I am anxious to hear from my cousin on how it all went. I love pregnancy stories and delivery stories. Each one of them has such a different circumstance and I marvel at how God plans it that way. It is the beginnning of a life story that He is writing about that child.
I look forward to see how God will shape the new member of our family.

AS for other stuff, Hannah came down sick Thursday night, so since Chris was off Friday, he let me go back to bed and sleep most of Friday morning. I was so thankful.
Oh, one more exciting bit of news this week that I almost forgot. Tuesday we found out that Brett and Amy (Abram's parents) are expecting baby number 2. They will be due in the fall. She hasn't been to the doctor yet, but everyone is really excited.
Well, that is about it. Lots to pray for and lots to be thankful for this week.
I am hoping that all of you are doing good and avoiding the strange weather. No tornado watchs with blizzard warnings at the same time. ;-)
Sending all our love and prayers to all of you!!

Happy President's Day!!

Well, we got to enjoy the day together. The kids and I, and it was above freezing, as opposed to the last time I wrote.
It was actually pushing 60, so we went to Bartlett Park, since we knew it wouldn't be slushville. There were still piles of snow there, so we played invade the castle. Pretty much the people on the playground equiptment were the princes/princesses and they could throw snowballs at the invading dinosaurs. The dinosaurs could throw snowballs at the princes and princesses to keep them from getting them. Basically it was tag with snowballs. We were the only ones at the park, so that was fun too. We brought a picnic that we ended up eating in the car. We folded down the seats and ate our sandwiches and carrots there. Then we went to Walmart to get some sandwich baggies and some kites. We got home and went to the parking lot across the rivine to try to fly them. It was fun, since the kites were only $1.
As for last week, school was cancelled that Tuesday. Chris had to drive to Liberty, Mo for spring training. He said roads were terrible. It took them 2 extra hours to get there due to the ice and snow. We got about 4 inches of snow, but with 2 inches of icy junk with it. They did have school on Valentines day, but probably shouldn't have. The road in front of Nathan's school was terrible. A delivery truck had to stop to turn left into the school and got stuck. The traffic backed up all the way to the Belt and Ashland. It was awful. And, along with that, Nathan's head homeroom mom called. Her boys were vomiting and so she wasn't going to be able to help with the party. She had all the goody bags and games and everything. So, I got to the school early to try to organize everything and prep myself. It went well, however, Mrs. Kingery said that she had 3 kids come to school, saying that they had thrown up that morning, but they didn't want to miss the party, so their parents sent them. Sephra and I visited later about how she was the only smart and respectful parent that day.
The kids loved looking at their valentines. They were really dedicated the weekend before preparing their valentines. Handwriting everyones names. I still have some mailed ones to send out. Hannah wanted to include candy, so I need to get a padded envelope for a certain family's valentines to go in. (Sorry Bond family; yours will be late!!)
AS for Thursday, with the weather being frigid, Hannah and I decided to actually paint the bathroom. (Yes, I am ashamed to say that it is still unfinished). She really enjoyed that. She is hoping to finish it with me tomorrow. AS long as I let her pretend to be the mom.
Friday Chris was off, so I went walking with Margaret at the mall and they Chris and I went out to eat dinner at Rib Crib. Then it was off to grocery shop before picking up Hannah. As we picked her up, snow began to fall. By the time we made it to Nathan's school, we could barely see for the downfall. We ended up getting another 1.5 inches. We decided to stay home and play cards and watch movies. We made pizzas and ate Oreos. It was nice.
Saturday we stayed home and rested. I was feeling odd, so I didn't do much. Found out then also that the peanut butter we had in our pantry had been recalled for salmonilla poisioning. No one had gone down sick, but we threw it away anyways.
Sunday was church. I was subbing for a girl in the 2 & 3's this quarter. Wow!! I forgot how much I miss those guys. I had the priviledge of getting to know Ariana McDowell. What a sweetie! Her story is one of miracles and amazement. She LOVES to read!!! I am so looking forward to March, for when I get to be in there and spend time with them every week.
Well, that is about it. A week in summary. I hope that your week was one filled with thankfulness to God and awe of His mercy and grace!!
Until next time!!!

Where do I start?

Ok, well, since I last wrote, so many things have happened. I guess the most logical place to start is at the beginning.
The next day after my last blog, I went to Kansas City to pick up my grandmother from the airport. She had been in Arizona with her brother, Dave. She was early by 15 minutes. As she and I left KCI, it began to snow. We got back to the apartment and we ate some lunch and then it was about time to get Hannah. I let her stay behind, thinking she could use a nap or something. The kids were really excited to have her there. Hannah and her shared a room and it was sweet to see them develop a closer relationship. They talked till probably 9:30 that first night. Then, Thursday, she seemed really tired and out of it. I was worried about her. She didn't get out of bed for the day until about 2pm. Hannah went and laid down with her before she got up. That evening she enjoyed spending time with both kids, having them read to her and stuff.
Friday she went and did the school drop off rounds. Then we met my friend Margret at the mall. She really enjoyed visiting with Margret and Margret wrote me a card thanking me for sharing such a wonderful mentor with her. We were there visiting until noon and then headed home for lunch. Due to the cold weather, she stayed home again while I picked up the kids. Mom and Dad were due in my supper time, so after seeing school work, Grandma and I started in on prepping supper. As we were getting ready to eat, they called, letting us know they were just leaving. So we went ahead and ate and played a couple of board games to occupy the time. They were due by 8. Around 8:15, they called, letting us know it would be another 45 minutes before they would be there. So we put pajamas on the kids and read until they got there a little after 9. By then, Nathan was looking a little pale and felt warm. Took his temp and it was 99.8. Gave him some tylenol and sent him to bed. Checked it again at 10 and it was at 101. By midnight and a dose of motrin later, he spiked at 104.4. I called the nurses hotline here in town that is associated with the emergency room, wondering at what point I should take him into the -15 degree night air to the hospital. She said to keep alternating the tylenol and motrin every hour until it fell and if he went above 105 to take him in.
Luckily, he maxed out there and hung around 102 all weekend. He got up Saturday for breakfast, at 2 bites of cereal and went back to bed and slept until supper time. At supper he ate about 5 bites and was tired again and slept all night. He rested off and on all Sunday and hovered around 101. I took him in to the doctor monday and he said they had seen a lot of that. It was a virus that attacks really quick and spikes a temperature. Once that is over, it is followed by a sinus infection and ear infections. Sure enough, he had both. So he is actually still on it twice a day. He went back to school Tuesday for their 100th day and was ok.
So, Wednesday, I had about 50 loads of laundry to do as well as wash more dishes and general clean up after guests. Thursday, Hannah woke up feeling sick to her stomach, so she slept all day. Since I had done a bunch of house work Wednesday, I took advantage of the situation and slept with her all day, just to catch up a little. When she woke up to get Nathan from school, she still complained of her stomach. I gave her some crackers to nibble on and some gatorade. About 15 minutes later, she threw up all over me, herself and the couch. She went back to bed after a bath and slept the rest of the night. She woke up the following morning feeling great and wanting to go to school. So we let her. She never ran a temp, so I am assuming it was something she ate, or a 24 hour bug.
By then, it was the weekend and so we played all day Saturday, since everyone was well.
Nathan, bless his heart, woke up, got dressed, made his bed, fed Percy, and woke me up to see what his daily job was so that he could be helpful to me. I gave him a hug and told him nothing. His daily job was to play with me.
So we played the game "Guess who". There was a card with a guy on it named Tyler. He has a friend at school named that, so I asked him if that was what Tyler at school would look like when he grew up and he replied, "Well, this guy has black hair. Tyler at school has gray hair, just like Dad." We all laughed about it. Then Hannah noticed something that had Chris' mom's name on it. "Lorna Crosswhite" Since she is our professional reader, she asked what it said. I asked her what she thought and she said, "Llama Crosswhite". We had to call grandma to tell her that she had now become a llama. She laughed.
So, anyways, here we are on another week. Today the kids went to school and I watched Abram. We are getting a winter mix, so school might be cancelled tomorrow. We will wait and see. Temperatures are supposed to drop too. I saw -2 for an actual temp for one day this week, so....
School Valentines party is Wednesday and since I am co-homeroom parent, I got Chris to volunteer his morning, since he has to close. He said he would run the snack table. :-)
Hopefully it will be a slow, uneventful, healthy week.!! I could sure use it.
That is about it. March is looking to be full, so hopefully I will get into a better habit by then.

Hope that all is well with everyone and that you are warm and healthy!!
Until next time, trusting that you are honoring Him in all you say and do!
